A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
