Individual Charged with Trying to Kill in Shooting of NFL Athlete Kris Boyd
An individual has been formally accused with trying to kill someone in connection with the attack that wounded New York Jets NFL player Kris Boyd.
Suspect Identified and Taken Into Custody
The individual charged is a man from the Bronx, twenty years old. Law enforcement took him into custody on Monday, accused of assault.
Circumstances of the Mid-November Shooting
The serious event happened in the early hours of 16 November, outside a busy New York City restaurant. Law enforcement stated the event as a confrontation with a unknown individuals.
Boyd, 29 years old, was accompanied by two other Jets players and a friend in a central part of New York City when the taunting began.
It resulted in a fight, during which police allege Green shot the athlete two times in the stomach.
Severe Wounds and Hospitalization
The gunshot pierced Boyd's lung and lodged in his major blood vessel near the heart. He was taken to hospital in serious condition but was eventually released.
It has been reported he has since visited his teammates at a Jets practice facility.
Investigation and Apprehension in Buffalo
Surveillance video from the scene reportedly showed Green running away and entering a car driven by another person.
Authorities took into custody Green on 8 December in a city approximately 580km away, where he was reportedly hiding at his partner's residence.
A law enforcement statement confirmed that "a person of interest" had been apprehended.
When law enforcement converged on the building, the individual was seen "peeking out the window looking for an way out but retreated inside after seeing the team and a canine officer," the statement added.
The situation concluded shortly thereafter, when the man left the residence with his hands in the air.
The accused had "modified his appearance probably to avoid detection," law enforcement stated further.
Boyd's Career History
Prior to signing with the Jets this season, Boyd had stints with the Arizona Cardinals over multiple years in the NFL.
The cornerback had been on the team's injury list for the Jets after suffering a injury to his shoulder during team practice in the late summer.
