Much like the recent storm tore through the north-west the previous evening, Manchester City swept United aside at the their home ground. It was a emphatic three goal victory for the City coach's side due to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their championship potential as they reinforced their position at the WSL pinnacle.

Consecutive Defeats for United

This result signalled successive league setbacks for Skinner's side for the maiden instance since spring 2024, leaving them seven points off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions severely dented.

Manchester United's ability to manage league and European football with a small squad has been a widely debated topic since they qualified for the UCL. Reviewing the schedule, it always felt like this was the matchday that would seriously challenge this capability. Regrettably for the opposition, they seemed weary all game, the memorable win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having left its mark.

Tactical Shifts

The hosts, in contrast, could have added to their advantage when a delightful Vivianne Miedema through ball sent Shaw away only for her to fluff her lines but it mattered little to the winning team.
