Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
