Supporters Urge Custody of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a man who breached a fence and touched the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating footage shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "released after being detained", though official papers showed that he was set to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Record of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile features videos of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Several followers accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
Several supporters also questioned guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the popular theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the surprising friendship between two contrasting witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, earning a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
