The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Versus the Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first World Series since the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, who are the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now hit 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation besides him with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.
The Blue Jays secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
