The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... For Now.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit series coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the creative team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Does the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the writers are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
