Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot Military Personnel to the White House
President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Call
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Support
Community members gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to support public safety in the capital.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to help others.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Actions and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The tragedy prompted the administration to suspend refugee claims and cease issuing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed a news show that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” the governor told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
