Ukraine has announced the commencement of large-scale manufacturing for a new locally engineered interceptor drone to strengthen its aerial protection systems. Three initial manufacturers have begun production, with an additional eleven getting ready to establish assembly lines, the defence ministry announced this past Friday.

Advanced 'Octopus' System Tested in Battlefield Conditions

The drones utilize a nationally created technology known as “Octopus” engineered to neutralize Iranian-made drones. This technology has been tested in combat and proved effective “at night, amid electronic warfare and at low altitudes,” the ministry confirmed. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set an ambitious goal of manufacturing as many as 1,000 defensive drones each day.

Recent Attack on the Capital Described as Deliberate

Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized Moscow's most recent assault against Ukraine as “intentional, calculated and brutal” following six individuals were killed and dozens wounded in a series of night-time strikes throughout Kyiv. Air raid sirens sounded in the capital just after 12 AM on Friday, with Shahed drones quickly detected overhead and heavy machine-gun fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.

The president reported the nation was hit by hundreds of UAVs and multiple missiles. Those killed had been inside their residences in a block of flats on Kyiv’s left bank when it was hit. Dozens of additional structures were damaged, among them the Azerbaijani embassy.

Diplomatic Objection Following Embassy Destruction

The Azerbaijani government said it issued a strong protest to the Russian ambassador this past Friday after the destruction at its diplomatic compound. An explosion from a Moscow's missile demolished a section of the compound's boundary wall and caused significant destruction to the diplomatic compound, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry stated. No one was hurt, and a ministry spokesperson confirmed the diplomatic mission in Ukraine was maintaining operations.

Russian Glide Bomb Production Sees Significant Increase

Moscow plans to manufacture as many as 120,000 guided aerial bombs this year, a high-ranking Ukrainian defense official said, among them 500 of an innovative, longer-range version that can reach more towns and cities. Russian forces were firing hundreds of aerial bombs per day, with last month’s daily average standing at about 170, based on official military statistics.

Kyiv's Strikes Focus on Moscow's Energy Infrastructure

Russia’s maritime terminal of Novorossiysk halted for a period crude shipments this past Friday – equivalent to 2% of global supply – after a strike by Ukrainian forces. Ukraine’s general staff said its military had fired Neptune cruise missiles and used various types of strike drones in the attack on Novorossiysk “as part of efforts to reduce the military and economic potential of the Russian aggressor.”

Ukraine separately struck an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region and a fuel storage facility in nearby Engels overnight.

Global Sanctions Impact Russian Energy Company

Russia’s second-largest energy company Lukoil said on Friday it is negotiating with potential buyers regarding its international holdings following last month’s sanctions from Western nations and failure of a deal with commodity trader Gunvor. “The specific deal are to be disclosed after conclusive negotiations have been reached and required authorizations are secured,” Lukoil commented.

Ukrainian President Schedules Diplomatic Trip to Spanish Capital

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to travel to the city of Madrid, the Spanish capital, next Tuesday to confer with parliament members following his visit to Paris, Spanish parliamentary officials disclosed. Zelenskyy will convene with representatives from both chambers of the legislature throughout his stay, the Spanish statement confirmed.
